Science Communication and Social Media

12.08.2026 von 13:00 - 17:00 Uhr

Johannes Gutenberg-Universität, Mainz

Dr. Florence Randrianarisoa is a doctor, presenter and science journalist. She first studied media culture and media management in Cologne and Rome, before going on to study medicine in Cologne and Fort-de-France in the Caribbean. After completing her PhD, she worked as a doctor in a hospital and now works as a television presenter (WDR’s ‘Quarks’), a science journalist for radio and television, and as a content creator.

In this English-language workshop, participants will work together to develop a personal and institutional social media strategy, their own online presence and various storytelling techniques.

As part of the ‘Open Science and Science Communication’ project, the COM Department is developing a campus-wide programme of advisory services and professional development in science communication. Researchers and staff from all disciplines and at all levels of expertise will benefit from support services and skills development initiatives. The project thus expands on existing science communication programmes in Rhineland-Palatinate (WissKomm Academy) and at the Rhine-Main Universities (RMU).

If you attend four of our events, you will receive a certificate from JGU for ‘SciComBasics’. All events are automatically open to participants from our RMU partner universities.

  • Development of a personalized social media strategy
  • How to create engaging content that translates complex research for broader audiences
  • How to design content specifically aimed at attracting students
