[Workshop] Working in international research teams: Understanding and avoiding misunderstandings

31.08.2026 von 09:00 - 16:00 Uhr
01.09.2026 von 09:00 - 16:00 Uhr

24.08.2026

International research teams are now part of everyday academic life. Doctoral candidates and postdocs work with supervisors, colleagues and project partners from different countries, disciplines and academic cultures. Although everyone may be working towards the same research goals, misunderstandings can still arise around communication, feedback, hierarchy, time, decision-making and expectations.

This two-day workshop helps participants understand why these misunderstandings happen and how they can be handled more effectively. The focus is not on learning fixed “rules” for different nationalities, but on developing cultural awareness, recognizing assumptions and adapting communication in international academic settings.

Participants will work with examples, case studies and their own experiences. The seminar is practical, interactive and relevant for doctoral candidates and postdocs who work in international teams, plan a research stay abroad or already have experience in intercultural academic environments.

You will receive 2 CPs for this workshop to complete your certificate of the former General Postgraduate Program (GPP).

No prior methodological knowledge is required.

The workshop is delivered in English. Participants should have a good working knowledge of English and be willing to take part in discussion and group activities.

The workshop is suitable for doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers from all disciplines, especially those who work in international teams, plan a research stay abroad or already have experience in intercultural academic settings.
